OpenAI pauses its largest planned frontier RL run to strengthen safety checks

OpenAI has temporarily slowed some frontier training to strengthen security and monitoring, and its largest planned frontier RL run remains on hold. Smaller-scale training and evaluations are being used to test safeguards and gather more evidence of alignment.

Jakub Pachocki also said confidence in safety should increasingly set the pace of AI development and that he signed Pacing the Frontier.
