Pocket Aces: open-source Pokémon-Balatro roguelike game with swappable IP

AISummary

Developer Anshu Chatterjee has open-sourced Pocket Aces, a Balatro-style poker roguelike that replaces all Pokémon IP with original characters.

The Pokémon assets are modular and can be swapped back in from the PokeAPI repo, though the developer notes the user proceeds at their own risk.

The post says the game now works on mobile with reduced-motion options, and the developer is willing to address further bug reports.

My Pokémon x Balatro game is now open-source!

Code: https://github.com/achimala/pocket-aces
Play: http://pocket-aces.anshu.dev

Here's my attempt to do this in a legal, respectful way, while letting people do what they want:
- Renamed to Pocket Aces, which I don't believe conflicts with anything
- All Pokémon IP is replaced with original IP, but…
- …the IP is modular and swappable, so if you REALLY want Pokémon IP, you can install it from the PokeAPI repo (no affiliation). The Pocket Aces repo has more info on this. Proceed at your own risk.

IP changes are cosmetic, and don't affect gameplay.

Addressing common responses:
- Grok Bot read every reply, extracted all the bug reports and issues, and Claude fixed them all. It works on mobile now, and has options for reduced motion. Let me know if more things are broken!
- This was a silly demo I hadn't intended to maintain, but if y'all wanna keep playing it, I'm happy to throw agents at bugs or feature requests
- Yes, I know, it's AI slop, it's not as good as all the other fan projects, I know, I know. I didn't say it was perfect. It's a one-shot demo that I thought was cool. I'm glad many people tried it and had fun. I don't intend to put it on Steam or try to profit from it. https://x.com/anshuc/status/2107180724399075488/video/1
