Google launches Playground, a U.S.-only, no-code platform for AI-generated custom games
Overview
Google has launched Playground, an experimental browser-based platform at playground.google where users describe a game in text prompts, then play and share it without coding.
Per Google's AI blog and Google Labs, it is available to U.S. users aged 18 and older, with creation access rolling out by Google AI subscription tier; TestingCatalog reports that paid-plan users can generate games while everyone can play games in the gallery.
A TechRadar reviewer tested the tool and reported that a short prompt produced a playable dragon platformer and a longer prompt produced a satirical puzzle RPG, both with working controls, objectives and music that could be revised through further prompts. The reviewer judged them impressive as prototypes but not games they would want to play for dozens of hours.
Google says a planned Unity Spark integration would add more advanced 3D and mechanics for dedicated creators, but Unity Spark is still in testing with its closed beta only described as coming soon, so that deeper tooling is not yet available.
